I wanted to take the chance to share with you this awesome article from the East Bay Times (featuring photos of yours truly!) about the Dynamic Mindfulness classes I teach at Park Middle School in Antioch, as a part of my yoga therapy program!
Students (mostly 6th graders) have an instructor come in twice a week for 20-minute mindfulness sessions that incorporate movement, breath and centering to help reduce stress, as well as build self awareness and emotional regulation.
The best news? The program cut suspensions in half across two academic years.
"Park Middle School had logged 255 suspensions by March 31 of the 2015-16 school year — a statistic that equates to 522 missed days of classes. But by the same date this academic year there were 120 suspensions that accounted for 197 days of lost instruction."
